International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) Training FAQs
What courses do I need to take to receive a Certificate in Public Participation?
Engage Delaney offers three IAP2 certificate core courses; Fundamentals of P2/Engagement (prerequisite), Designing P2, and the Applying Methods courses.
Can I take the three courses in any order?
You must complete the Fundamentals of P2/Engagement first as it is the prerequisite. You can take either Designing P2/Engagement or Applying Methods after the Fundamentals course.
Does Engage Delaney offer a discount for taking all three courses with Engage Delaney?
Engage Delaney offers a $100 bundle discount for the three core courses. You must register and pay at the same time with Engage Delaney. You have a year from the first Fundamentals course to take Designing P2/Engagement and Applying Methods. If you have more than three people from the same organization, we also provide further discounts.
What if something changes and I have registered and paid for a course ahead of time and I can’t attend?
Please contact us so that we can reschedule you to another one of our public courses.
If I take the Certificate in P2 courses with Engage Delaney, is it recognized by IAP2?
Yes, Engage Delaney is an engagement and consulting company who provides training on behalf of IAP2. We have two IAP2 certified trainers on staff.
Will I receive a course completion certificate?
You will receive a certificate of completion after each of the three core courses. Upon successful completion of the three courses, participants will receive a Certificate in Public Participation to acknowledge their accomplishment and verify their training hours.
I have taken the prerequisite course with a different service provider. Can I take Designing P2/Engagement or Applying Methods with Engage Delaney?
Yes! You just need to let us know who you have taken either Fundamentals of P2/Engagement or the IAP2 Way in Challenging Contexts on your registration form.
I am new to engagement. What IAP2 courses do I need to take to become a certified public participation professional (CP3)?
IAP2 has developed a Global Learning Pathway to become a certified CP3 professional. You MUST take the three IAP2 Certificate courses before applying to IAP2 to become a registered Certified Public Participation Practitioner (CP3).
Am I certified if I receive my Certificate in Public Participation?
No, receiving the Certificate in Public Participation is the first step in becoming a CP3.
Virtual or In-Person Public Training FAQs
Does Engage Delaney have in-person IAP2 Training?
What are the benefits of in-person training?
You will complete the Certificate in Public Participation in five days. The in-person training is very interactive. You can unplug from work and concentrate on the training without distraction as well as make connections with your fellow participants.
Do I have to take all three courses for in-person training? Can I register for Fundamentals only?
You must register and pay for the five days of training.
What are the benefits of online learning?
You can spread out the courses and absorb what you have learned after each training session. We use up-to-date virtual training tools like Zoom and Miro. Our virtual courses are interactive and dynamic. We have a producer who joins the training to provide technical support, as needed.
Completion of the old IAP2 Foundations Certificate
I have the old (pre-January 2023) Foundations in P2 Certificate (Planning and Techniques). Can I receive the new Certificate in Public Participation?
If you would like to receive the new Certificate in P2 you can watch a short IAP2 transitional video and take the Applying Methods course.
What courses can I take to stay current?
You are eligible to take the new IAP2 elective courses that help you excel in P2 engagement practice. Engage Delaney offers three courses on our training schedule. The three courses are Understanding Conflict in P2, Understanding People and Communities, and Working with Conflict and High Emotion.

Engage Delaney has three courses listed on our public training schedule; the Facilitating Engagement, Designing Engagement Surveys, and Evaluating Engagement courses will help your organization gain deeper knowledge, new skills and techniques, broaden awareness, and bring more confidence to our P2/engagement processes.
Do I need to have my IAP2 Certificate to take an Engage Delaney training course?
You do not need to have taken the IAP2 Certificate course but the Engage Delaney courses do build on the Foundations of Engagement from IAP2.

We have several training options for in-person or virtual training for organizations whether you are looking for IAP2 or Engage Delaney courses. We also can work with the organization to develop a tailored training plan. Please contact us to discuss what your training options are.

Engage Delaney has three courses that will help your decision makers gain knowledge and skills to foster a positive culture of engagement and clarify roles and responsibilities.
