The Canadian and global standard for public participation training, International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) training delivered by Engage Delaney provides new and experienced engagement professionals with foundational skills and a Certificate in Public Participation.
Engage Delaney regularly offers three core IAP2 courses required to complete an IAP2 Certificate in Public Participation. Participants who are looking to become a certified CP3 professional must take Fundamentals of P2 and Engagement, Designing P2 and Engagement, and Applying Methods courses to receive the Certificate in Public Participation before applying to become a CP3 through IAP2.

This is a prerequisite course for all IAP2 courses. The focus of this online course is on understanding and applying the practices of meaningful and effective P2 (public participation).

This online course introduces practitioners to the design and planning phases of the practice framework allowing them to develop effective P2 and engagement plans.

Applying Methods
This online course focuses on techniques for P2/engagement and how to implement them successfully. Participants looking to further their knowledge and skills for objective-driven engagements are eligible for this.
IAP2 has recently introduced a range of elective courses as part of their Global Learning Pathway designed to accommodate your unique interests and objectives. These courses are organized into three levels to cater to your own interest and goals. The prerequisite for these electives is either the Fundamentals of P2 and Engagement, IAP2 Way in Challenging Contexts, or the previous Foundation in Public Participation training. If your organization is seeking to introduce the IAP2 way to senior leaders, help your staff learn to resolve conflict, or understand people and communities you deal with, the following IAP2 courses may be of benefit to you.

This course is for professionals who provide support or oversight to P2/engagement processes to understand underpinning models and frameworks of public participation end engagement practices.

The focus of this online course is on de-escalating and shifting conflict and high emotion to constructive participation, where forward momentum and resolution is possible. Participants will be able to explore tools, strategies, and ways of working to resolve polarized and emotional challenges.

This online course introduces working with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in P2/engagement to make the processes meaningful and effective.

Meet Your Trainers
Jessica Delaney
CEO
Jessica Delaney is a seasoned engagement and communications professional with 23 years’ experience working with government, private and the not-for-profit sector. Prior to joining the family business in 2013, she served in senior communications roles with two B.C. municipalities (Resort Municipality of Whistler and District of West Vancouver). Following 10 years working with Engage Delaney, she became CEO in 2023, and supports all consulting projects, leads the facilitation practice, and is Engage Delaney’s lead IAP2 trainer.
Jessica is a Certified Public Participation (CP3) engagement practitioner, a certified professional facilitator with the International Association of facilitators (IAF) and a Certified Organizational Coach (COC) through UBC.
She has two young boys and lives in the Okanagan in British Columbia.
CEOKristi Merilees
Director, Engagement and Communications
Kristi is an experienced public engagement and communications professional with over 19 years’ experience working in municipal government and public sector environments. Kristi has vast experience in detailed engagement planning, client relations, project leadership and facilitation using both in-person and virtual engagement techniques for various sectors including government, industry, healthcare, and transportation.
Kristi is skilled at collaborating and engaging seldom heard voices to create shared understanding and brings experience in professional communications and a collaborative facilitation style. Key experience includes detailed engagement planning, virtual and in-person facilitation, IAP2 training, client relations, leadership development, and coaching.
Kristi is a licensed IAP2 trainer, as well as a Certified Executive & Leadership Coach through Royal Roads University (ICF Certified 2025). She has a Master of Arts in Leadership, and a Graduate Certificate in Professional Communication Management, both through Royal Roads University.
